Hi, I’m Andrea Tran!

Welcome to Breastfeeding Confidential!

I’m a lactation consultant with over 24 years of experience.

Helping breastfeeding moms is my passion.

Why I started Breastfeeding Confidential:

I believe, unequivocally, that breastfeeding is important.

I believe that moms do the best they can with the information they have. Moms should not be judged for those decisions.

I believe that breastfeeding is the normal way to feed a baby.

I believe that moms do not get enough support to help them through the challenging times and that is usually the reason they don’t reach their goals, or even start breastfeeding in the first place.

I wanted to create a site that you can come to for advice and answers that are based on the latest research and the wealth of my many years of experience.

I want this to be an inclusive, accepting and non-judgemental place.

I started Breastfeeding Confidential because I love helping moms breastfeed!

I love the moments when I have helped a baby latch on for the first time. I love the look on a mom’s face when that happens.

I love when I meet with a mom and they tell me our session was helpful.

I love helping moms work through the challenges of breastfeeding and come out on the other side.

I grieve with those moms who come to the decision that breastfeeding is not working and they decide to end their breastfeeding journey sooner than they had wanted to.

There is rarely one right way of doing things, and breastfeeding is an ever-changing experience as your baby grows and changes.

I would love to help you with your journey.

My Background:

I am a registered nurse and an IBCLC – International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

I have a BSN, and an MA in Health and Wellness with a Focus in Lactation.

I worked for 24 years at a community hospital.

I was the program coordinator of our lactation program for 12 of the 24 years that I worked at the hospital. I had the opportunity to provide education to my patients, the staff, medical students and our physicians. I mentored many lactation consultants.

Teaching was one of my favorite parts of my job.

My clinical experience  in the hospital:

  • I helped moms and babies get started breastfeeding in the hospital
  • I saw them as outpatients if they ran into problems later on or if they just wanted to check if everything was going well
  • I helped moms on a telephone advice line
  • I taught breastfeeding classes
  • One of my proudest achievements was starting and facilitating a breastfeeding support group

I also provide help and education on an informal basis. I have answered questions about breastfeeding:

  • While putting gas in my car
  • At the gym
  • On airplanes
  • At dinner parties
  • From friends who were new grandmas and wanted to help their daughters who were struggling with breastfeeding

One of the most memorable times I did breastfeeding education was when I was stopped at a stop light and a guy who was in his early 20’s in the car next to me asked me about a window sticker I had on my car.

I have been married for 39 years and have three children,

Nicholas, Susie and Patrick.

They were all breastfed.

I love being a lactation consultant. I also love shoes, wine, and the beach.

 I welcome your feedback.
