Welcome to Breastfeeding Confidential!

My name is Andrea Tran and helping breastfeeding moms succeed with their breastfeeding plans is my passion.

I became a Lactation Consultant in 1994  and knew immediately that this is what I had been waiting to do.

Some background on me…I am a registered nurse and an IBCLC – International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I have a BSN and an MA in Health and Wellness with a Focus in Lactation. I have been a childbirth and breastfeeding educator.

I have breastfed my three children, who are all adults now. Nicholas, Susie, and Patrick.

I have worked in a community hospital with moms in the hospital, after they leave the hospital, and facilitating our breastfeeding support group.

I talk to moms on the telephone when they call with questions. I have answered questions from moms, or about breastfeeding while putting gas in my car, at the gym, on airplanes, while stopped at a stop light.

I have counseled moms via their moms by email and messenger. I always preface those second-hand consults by saying the mom should be working with a lactation consultant directly, but I also will always offer whatever help I can and is appropriate.

I have been invited to dinner so I could counsel a friend’s niece. I have done a couple of in-home unofficial consults for friends.

I love helping moms breastfeed!

I also love going to the beach, cooking (when I want to, not so much when I have to), shoes and wine.

I love the moments when I am present and maybe have even helped a baby latch on for the first time. I love the look on a mom’s face when that happens.

I love when I meet with a mom and they tell me our session was helpful. I enjoy helping moms work through the challenges of breastfeeding and come out on the other side.

I grieve with those moms who come to the decision that breastfeeding is not working and they decide to end their breastfeeding journey sooner than they had intended.

I believe, unequivocally that breastfeeding is important.

Read Why Breastfeeding Is Important.

I believe that breastfeeding is the normal way to feed a baby.

I believe that moms do the best they can with the information they have. Moms should not be judged for those decisions.

I believe that moms do not get enough support to help them through the challenging times and that is the primary reason they don’t reach their goals, or even start breastfeeding in the first place.

If you have a question, ask it. If you don’t agree with something I said, feel free to post why in the comments or Contact Me Here. I would love your feedback.

My hope for this site is that it will be a place you can come for advice and answers that are based on the latest research and the wealth of my many years of experience.

I want this to be an inclusive, accepting and non-judgemental place.

There is rarely one right way of doing things, and breastfeeding is an ever-changing experience as your baby grows and changes.

I would love to help you with your journey.

This is me standing next to our plaque when the hospital where I worked got our Baby Friendly designation. It was one of my proudest professional accomplishments.
